Preakness Stakes

The Preakness Stakes is an event held on the third Saturday in May each year at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland and is a thoroughbred horse race for 3 year olds that is 1 3/16 mile (1.91 km) long. The colts and geldings must carry 126 pounds (or 57 kg), while the fillies will be laden with 121 pounds (or 55 kg). The Preakness Stakes is also known as "The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans," because the winning horse is draped with a horseshoe made of black-eyed susans after the race.
