Winner of sixteen classics between 1962 and 1995, Dick was also champion trainer on four occasions. He was a St Ledger specialist winning the event six times. He also produced three Derby winners in Troy (1979), Henbit (1980) and Nashwan (1989). He was also responsible for training the legendary Brigadier Gerard who was only beaten once in eighteen races. Another principal horse in his care was Nashwan who won the Derby, 2000 Guineas and the King George VI all in 1979. The King George the VI was another race very much to the liking of Dick who came up with the winner five times.
