Believed by many to be the best jump jockey to have ever been seen on a British racecourse. Whilst his record speaks for itself, it was his graceful riding style and overall horsemanship that made him really stand out from the rest. By the close of his career he had ridden a then record 1138 winners and been champion jockey on seven occasions. He won numerous big races including both the Gold Cup and the Champion Hurdle. The one race that got away was the Grand National. His best place being second in 1980. |
