How to calculate dosage:
- Search for the four generations pedigree of the horse
- Check the up-to-date Chefs-de-race list (see useful links below)
- If the first generation sire is a chef-de-race, divide the 16 points between each category where the sire is a chef (if only one category is relevant, allocate all 16 to it).
- If the second generation sire is a chef-de-race, allocate 8 points in the same method.
- If the third generation sire is a chef-de-race, allocate 4 points in the same method.
- If the fourth generation sire is a chef-de-race, allocate 2 points in the same method.
- Sum the points in each category in order to obtain the dosage profile.
- In order to calculate the dosage index, sum the points of the Intermediate and the Brilliant factors and add half of the points of the Classic factor, then devid that number by the sum of the Solid and Professional factors plus the other half of the Classic factor points.
- In order to calculate the center of distribution, do the following:
Brilliant points * 2 + Intermediate points – Solid points - Professional points * 2
Dosage Profile
Some statistics:
- Dosage index of 4.0 and less and center of distribution between 1.0 to -1.0 will usually belong to horses who can run 10 furlongs.
- A classic distance running horse with ideal dosage profile will have a classic bell shaped curve profile.
- A horse that is better for sprints will usually have a high dosage profile.
